Kadijah looks to continue winning ways

Pompano Beach, FL – World record-holder pacing mare, Kadijah, is poised to stamp herself as the top mare at Pompano Park Harness Track with a victory in Monday’s, Boca Raton Handicap, and it’s only her second start of the 2004 season.

The six-year-old mare has entered the new year off her best season ever in 2003, winning 10 times, second 10 times and finishing third 5 times, with earnings of $69,000 for owner Carol Karter of Lake Worth, FL. Plus the mare set a world record for her age and gender for a five-eighths mile track, winning in a lifetime best 1:51.4 at Pompano Park.

Last week Kadijah and driver Wally Hennessey beat the best mares at the track, leaving from post eight and wiring the field by a neck in 1:55. She starts from post five and once again faces arch rival Big Duchess.

A newcomer to Pompano Park this season, Big Duchess was awesome in her four starts after arriving from the northeast for trainer/driver George Napolitano, Jr. The seven-year-old roan mare by Laag was beating everyone in her path until December 22, when there was only one she could not beat in her past two starts, Kadijah!

With the ability to win from both on and off the pace, Big Duchess starts from post six in her pursuit of defeating Kadijah.

Also entered in the race is S F Misty from post three for driver Kevin Wallis. This mare was a game second to Kadijah last week but was placed 7th for interference during the race. Another return winner in the field is former track record-holder, Artist Impression, who last week was able to lead from start to finish after a class drop in a speedy 1:54.2 and starts from post two. Completing the field are Sweet Dreams (post 1) and Dropelle (post 4).
