from Kawartha Downs
Fraserville, ON — Kawartha Downs’ 2016 season will come to a close this Saturday (Oct. 1). It’s appreciation night as we thank our fans, horse people and staff for another incredible season of racing.
Fans will receive free programs and be eligible for drawings to drive a Standardbred around the racetrack. Hats and t-shirts will be given away all evening as well as other prize draws. Standardbred Canada’s Fan Booth will be in the house with a prize draw and giveaways as well.
All of the winning horses on Saturday night will be presented with a blanket and at the end of the night we’ll determine Kawartha’s top driver and trainer of the meet by virtue of wins as right now it is too close to call in each division between Gord Brown (31) and Reg Gassien (29) in the drivers’ race and Dave Gibson (9), Murray Brethour (8) and Dave Snowden (7) amongst the trainers.
Last Saturday’s race card had to be canceled following the second race due to lack of lighting on the backstretch. Kawartha Downs applied for a make-up date (which would have been Oct. 8). Officials have advised that the funds simply aren’t available to make this happen, given the lateness of the season.
So this Saturday is the last for racing at the Fraserville oval for the season.
We’re also having ‘Kawartha Cares’ at the track on Saturday. Everyone who brings a non-perishable food item (which will be donated to the local food bank) will receive a $2 betting voucher.
Racing begins at 7 p.m. Parking and admission are always free.
