Kenneth Carlisle, 91, dies

Columbus, OH — Kenneth (Ken) D. Carlisle, 91, formerly of Lennon, Mich., died Nov. 7, 2021, at Mid-Michigan Health Care Center in Midland with family by his side.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1930, to Leona (Finley) and Harry Carlisle in Mansfield, Ohio.

He married Betty Lou Lantz on Aug. 3, 1951. They celebrated 70 years together this year. Betty preceded him in death by just two weeks.

Mr. Carlisle retired from Sears after more than 30 years of service as credit manager. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He enjoyed life on the farm and racing his horses across Michigan. Baseball was his favorite sport, having played for many years as a young man, and as a lifelong fan right through the end of this season.

He is survived by his children, Keith, Kimberly (Rodney) Friesen and their children, Caleb and Elisabeth, Kirk and Mary and their children, Jacob and Andrew (Nicole), and Kerry (Larry) Howard and their children, Jessica, Addison, and Ian; great-grandchildren, Olive, Violet, Levi, and Paislee; and sisters, Bonnie Herman, Charlotte Mullins-Heinz, and Joyce Wallen. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Aimee Howard; brothers, Harry, Jack Williams, William Williams, Walter Boley Jr., and David Boley; and sisters, Mildred Harding, Roberta Sellers, Peg Carpenter, and Shirley Gearen.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mid-Michigan Health Care, especially the Neurotrauma ICU for the compassionate care that was given during his final days. Thank you also to Brookdale of Midland for their loving care and for making Brookdale his “home.”

A service will be held for Ken and Betty at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Mich.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-Michigan Health Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
