Columbus, OH — Kenneth W. (Kenny Kirk) Kirkpatrick, 82, of New Holland, Ohio, died Sept. 9, 2017, at 9:47 p.m. at his home.
He was born Aug. 24, 1935, in New Holland, Ohio, to Joseph Wendell and Pauline M. Cottrill Kirkpatrick. He was a 1954 graduate of New Holland High School and was the winner of the Bob Bowsher Trophy (presented to the top boys basketball player in Pickaway County). He was a lifelong resident of New Holland.
He was a retired farmer and owner, breeder and trainer of Standardbred racehorses. His father Wendell started Adios Waverly in the Little Brown Jug in 1968 and won his elimination heat, but finished seventh in the final.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was a member of the New Holland United Methodist Church where he had been a trustee; was the oldest living member and past vice-president of the New Holland Lions Club; and was a member of the United States Trotting Association, Fayette County Harness Horsemen’s Association, the Fayette County Farm Bureau and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jo Ann (Jodi) Cockerill whom he married June 6, 1954; sons, Kenneth McKinley (Kenny Mac) and Bradley Joe; granddaughter, Kara Kirkpatrick Polichetti (John); and great-grandchildren, Johnny Polichetti and Kinlee Polichetti.
The funeral will be Thursday (Sept. 14) at 10:30 a.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with the Rev. Brian Dunham, pastor, New Holland United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.
