East Rutherford, NJ — Dreamfair Eternal posted the 50th win of her brilliant career when she came from off the pace to win the $245,000 Lady Liberty for pacing mares on Saturday (August 6) at Meadowlands Racetrack.
Brian Sears was in the bike for trainer Patrick Fletcher and owner/breeder John Lamers as Dreamfair Eternal crossed the wire in 1:49.2. Rock N Soul finished second for Yannick Gingras while Ticket To Rock and Jody Jamieson were third.
Chancey Lady and driver George Brennan left alertly from post position five and cut fractions of :26.4, :54 and 1:21. Dreamfair Eternal got away fourth at the opening quarter, then came first over down the backstretch. She was still third at the three-quarter pole, but made a move for the lead down the stretch.
Dreamfair Eternal was charging hard in the middle of the track and took over the lead from Chancey Lady, then held off Rock N Soul who fired off a pocket trip.
It was the first time that Brian Sears had driven Dreamfair Eternal and he was impressed with the 7-year-old Camluck mare.
“She didn’t let me down,” said Sears. “She’s a fast horse and she keeps on digging. I stayed on her right to the wire.”
“You always hope for these horses that you breed to do this,” said John Lamers, “but it always doesn’t come into play. I was a little bit concerned earlier this year because she did have six months off and started out a little bit slow but with Karen and Pat Fletcher, they looked after her like she was their own child, and she’s really come around. She can always be a broodmare. She’s going to race until she’s told me she’s had enough.”
