Last call for March 15 stakes payments

The March 15 deadline is drawing near for many stakes payments. Below are a list of notices that have recently been submitted to the USTA Newsroom. The following information regarding upcoming stakes payments is not meant to be a complete list of every required stakes payment. It is a list of only those notifications that have been provided directly to the USTA for posting here. For more information on payments, click here.

Payments due for Next Generation/Ohio State Fair at Scioto Downs

Columbus, OH — Payments must be postmarked by March 15 for the Next Generation and Ohio State Fair Stakes at Eldorado Scioto Downs this summer.

The Next Generation, which debuted in 2020, is for 2-year-old Ohio bred pacers and trotters. The nomination fee is $10,000 which buys the owner a spot; a horse does not need to be declared until the draw. All four divisions will be held July 4 with an estimated purse of $150,000.

Payments are also due for the Ohio State Fair Stakes. A nomination fee of $250 is due for each of the eight 2- and 3-year-old divisions. The Ohio State Fair races will be carded Aug. 4-6.

Nominations for the Charlie Hill Memorial Trot and Jim Ewart Memorial Pace, to be held Sept. 10, are not due until June 15.

Conditions for all events held at Scioto can be found on the USTA website.

The 2022 Scioto Downs 90-card racing season will run May 12 through Sept. 17. First post all season, including the special Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day cards, will be at 3:15 p.m. due to ongoing grandstand construction. Two-year-old payments due March 15 in Maryland

Ocean Pines, MD — Two-year-old payments (foals of 2020) are due to the Maryland Standardbred Fund and the Maryland Sire Stakes on March 15.

This payment must be made to maintain eligibility.

All staking forms, race dates and stallion pedigrees are now available online. Please use our website for all your current MSRF info and any updates as they become available.

We recommend that all payments be sent by certified mail or priority mail with tracking. Please use the following address for the Maryland Standardbred Race Fund: P.O. Box 1530, Ocean Pines, MD 21811.

Red Mile Grand Circuit payments due March 15

Lexington, KY — Red Mile has announced that Grand Circuit stakes payments are due March 15.

DSBF March 15 payments due

Dover, DE — A $100 sustaining payment is due for DSBF eligible 2-year-olds who made the May 15, 2021 nomination payment of $40.

A 2-year old who was not nominated can pay a supplemental fee of $350 along with the March 15 $100 sustaining fee and a copy of the USTA registration papers or the “Pathway Basic Horse” report. Horse name search is not acceptable.

It is strongly suggested to use mail with a tracking number, UPS, or Federal Express. All payments must be postmarked by March 15.

Credit card payments are the easiest and most efficient method. Go here and click on the label for “Online Payment Portal.” There is no administrative fee. In the field labeled “invoice #” enter the horse’s name.

Second sustaining payments are due by May 15 in the amount of $200.

Ohio stakes payments due March 15

Grove City, OH — Nominations and staking payments for 2- and 3-year-olds in the Ohio Sires Stakes, Buckeye Stallion Series and Ohio’s four fair racing circuits, the Home Talent Colt Stakes, Ohio Colt Racing Association, Ohio Fair Racing Conference, and the Southern Valley Colt Circuit are due Tuesday (March 15).

Staking payments for the Ohio Sires Stakes, Buckeye Stallion Series, Ohio Fair Racing Conference, and the Ohio Fair Championships should be sent to the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. All payments must be received at the OHHA office by close of business March 15 or have an official United States Postal Service postmark.

For all Ohio stakes races, eligible foals are those sired by a registered Standardbred stallion with the Ohio State Racing Commission during the year of conception.

The cost to nominate one horse to the Ohio Sires Stakes is $500 for all four legs of the series or $200 per leg. The cost to nominate a horse to the Buckeye Stallion Series is $250 for all legs, while the cost to nominate for all 21 Ohio Fair Racing Conference fairs is $420. Nomination fees for individual fairs is $75. Nomination fee for the Ohio Fair Championship is $100.

Completed forms should be sent to the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, 2237 Sonora Dr., Grove City, OH 43123.

Nomination fees for the Home Talent Colt Stakes are $500 across the board for 15 fairs, Ohio Colt Racing Association are $500 across the board for 19 fairs and $450 across the board for the Southern Valley Colt Circuit’s 10 fairs.

Nomination forms for the HTCS, OCRA and SVCC are due to circuit offices March 15.

Delaware (OH) payments due March 15

Delaware, OH — Two-year-old sustaining payments for the 78th edition of the Little Brown Jug, the 53rd Jugette, the 71st Old Oaken Bucket (3-year-old open trot) and the 71st Buckette (3-year-old filly trot) are due March 15. These payments are for foals of 2020 and will be raced in 2023.

The 2-year-olds not nominated in the May 15, 2021 yearling payment may be made eligible through a supplemental nomination fee of $400 due on or before the March 15, 2022 payment. This supplemental payment is in addition to the normal March 15 payment.

Sustaining payments are also due for the 83rd Standardbred 2-year-old colt and filly stakes for foals of 2020 to be raced in 2022.

The $1,000,000 (est.) Ohio Breeders Championships require a single $300 ($100 for the older events) nomination payment due March 15 with no further sustaining payments required.

Returning to the 2022 Delaware County Fair race schedule are $17,500 legs of the Buckeye Stallion Series. To nominate to the BSS, a $250 nomination fee is due with no further sustaining payments required.

The Delaware County Fair is once again pleased to be a part of the Ohio Fair Racing Conference in 2022. The OFRC events require either a $75 nomination fee for just the Delaware County Fair or $420 for all the OFRC events. Nominations for the BSS and ORFC events must be postmarked by March 15 and sent directly to the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, 2237 Sonora Drive, Grove City, OH 43123.

The five-day Delaware Grand Circuit meet opens Sunday (Sept. 18) and will run through Thursday (Sept. 22).

Nominations for 2-year-old Hawthorne stakes due March 15

Stickney, IL — With split racing schedules between harness and Thoroughbred meets at Hawthorne in 2022, Standardbred horsemen are reminded that stakes nominations for the 2-year-old Night of Champions races must be postmarked by March 15.

This year Hawthorne will conduct a split series of races as well. In July, eliminations will be contested with $12,000 purses for each elimination, followed by a $50,000 final. The same will again take place in September, with eliminations once again going for $12,000 apiece while the finals are each estimated at $100,000.
