Lindy The Great repeats at Philly

Chester, PA — Lindy The Great made every pole a winning one and raised his lifetime earnings to $1,496,577 with a 1:54.1 win in Thursday’s (Nov. 17) $22,500 fast-class handicap trot at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Andy Miller pointed the son of Crazed frontward immediately to set fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:25.2. Pocket sitter Storm Is Raging, a winner on Saturday at Pocono, loomed as a likely challenger in the stretch but lost stride midway around the far turn. Favorite Lindy The Great had it pretty easy from there, holding off closer Robbie Pev by 2-1/4 lengths for trainer Julie Miller and the partnership of Andy Miller Stable Inc., John Schmucker, John Mehlenbacher and VIP Internet Stable LLC.

Thanks to hefty carryovers from Sunday’s card, the holder of the one successful Early Pick-4 ticket ($5.20, $6.60, $38.00, $32.80) received a windfall of $15,355.80 on a 50-cent wager, while the lone 50-cent bettor who took down the Super Hi-5 (18-1 and 11-1 on top of the three favorites) won $7,853.50.

Five drivers recorded doubles on the Thursday card: Simon Allard, Kasper Foget, Andy Miller, David Miller and Austin Siegelman. The meet’s leading trainer, Per Engblom, topped them all with three wins.

Harrah’s Philadelphia will host racing on Friday (Nov. 18) at 12:25 p.m. and Sunday (Nov. 20) at 12:40 p.m. Horsepeople are advised that the draw for next Friday (Nov. 25) is set for Monday (Nov. 21), and races for that Sunday (Nov. 27) will be drawn Tuesday (Nov. 22). Program pages for all Philly cards are or will be available on the PHHA website.
