Ft. Washington, MD — Lye Creek Betty ($3.20, $2.40, $2.10) took home another win as the betting choice in the $7,200 featured pace for fillies and mares at Rosecroft Raceway on Saturday, April 14, upping her lifetime earnings to over $126,000.

The 5-year-old daughter of Mark Jonathan, driven by Victor Kirby, dropped in third along the rail early on in the race. Tracking leader Boca Hanover (Frank Milby) through quarters of :28.2, :57.1 and 1:25.4, Kirby tipped Lye Creek Betty out after the half for a first-over trip. Lye Creek Betty hit another gear in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.3.

Drivin’ Miss Rudee ($2.20, $2.10) sat patiently along the rail through the mile with Tony Schadel in the sulky. The 5-year-old Walton Hanover mare, co-owned by William Camp and trainer John Sumner, found a burst of speed in the stretch to close for second up the passing lane.

Boca Hanover ($2.20) held on for third. The 5-year-old daughter of The Panderosa, trained by Don Milby for owner Irwin Samelman, faded late in the stretch after cutting the mile.

The 2-5-1 trifecta paid $12.60.

Burton scores driving grand slam on Saturday

Driver Brian Burton had a night to remember on Saturday, scoring four wins on the 12-race card.

The first race, a conditioned maiden pace, was a successful one for Burton. His own Crucial Escape ($31.40, $5.80, $4.00) showed a promising mile after coming from behind to win in 1:59. The 3-year-old Artiscape filly, owned by Martin Burton, closed alertly in the stretch with a :29.2 final quarter at 14-1 odds.

In the fifth race, a non-winners of two for colt and gelding pacers, H Hall ($3.60, $3.20, $3.60) drew away from the field as the betting favorite. The 3-year-old Blissfull Hall colt, owned by Greg Burton and trained by Brian, paced three-wide near the top of the stretch to close in :30.2. H Hall won easily by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:57.1.

Blissfully High ($8.40, $3.40, $3.80) took the 10th race over a sloppy track. Racing in an optional $10,000 claimer, the 5-year-old daughter of Blissfull Hall paced wire-to-wire in 1:57.2. Trainer-driver Brian Burton co-owns the mare with Martin and Jason Burton.

The 11th race, another $10,000 claiming pace, brought Kelly’s Spur ($7.80, $3.80, $2.60) to the winner’s circle. Trained by Gerald Kelly, the 3-year-old Sharky Spur gelding paced first-over to win in 2:02.1.

Live racing returns to Rosecroft on Monday, April 16, with a 5:35 p.m. post time.
