Scarborough, ME — With Scarborough Downs preparing to bring the curtain down on the summer portion of the 2011 meeting, Maeve continued to put her own special stamp on the record books at the Seaside Oval.
The 3-year-old daughter of Veeza, in each of her last three starts at Scarborough Downs, has come to the races fit for the duty and left the racecourse the owner of a brand new track record each time.
Saturday’s (September 10) performance in a $9,478 Maine Sire Stakes race was perhaps the most impressive of all, as she shaved one-fifth of a second off her previous benchmark, stopping the teletimer in 1:56.1.
She led throughout the mile, reaching the midway point in a very unhurried :59.1, and without driver Kevin Switzer ever calling upon her, she sped through the back half in an impressive :57, punctuated by a final quarter clocking of :27.4.
It was the sixth win of the season for the standard bearer of the filly division of the Maine Sire Stakes program, who joined her stablemate, Barbra Ann, in victory celebrations as driver/trainer Kevin Switzer controlled both splits of the Maine Sire Stakes action on Saturday.
The 2011 summer meeting closes at Scarborough Downs on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. and features the 2-year-old finals of the Maine Sire Stakes program, with over a quarter of a million dollars in purse money on the line.
