Berlin, MD — Ocean Downs hosted four Maryland Sire Stake Summer Finals for 3-year-olds, each with a purse of $25,000 on Thursday (July 28).
The 3-year-old filly pacers started the evening off with a non-wagering event. O’What A Stunner (Cam’s Rocket-Radiant Breeze) repeated last week’s preliminary performance, coming from third at the half and stopping the timer at 1:56.3 for driver Corey Callahan and owner/breeder Thomas Cooke.
My Baby Momma (Tejano-Kora’s Trotter) lowered her own Maryland Sire Stakes record, winning the $25,000 filly trot in 2:00.2. This was My Baby Momma’s fourth straight win for driver Jonathan Roberts and owner/trainer Richard Hans.
The pacing colt/gelding race turned into a “war” with War Cloud (Cam’s Rocket-Pretty Daring) battling with Modern Day Clyde from the three-quarter pole to the wire with War Cloud prevailing in a very tight photo in 1:56.1. This was the second win of the night for owner/trainer Richard Hans. Corey Callahan was the reinsman.
Summer Showdown ended with My Brother Pete (Wonder Dancer-Sanstone’s Annie) taking the trotting colt/gelding race in 2:03.3, holding off a late charge from Red Oaks Chance and Bona Fide Man. Bryce and Cindy Truitt are the owners as well as Bryce being the driver/trainer.
