East Rutherford, NJ — In a highly competitive field, Account Rollover was able to defeat five different Caramore division winners en route to completing a series sweep in The Caramore on Saturday (June 20) at The Meadowlands.
Sent off as the 8-5 favorite, Account Rollover showed good speed early in the mile, made an aggressive move to the lead past the quarter in :27.1 and took charge down the backstretch.
Driver Vincent Ginsburg was able to rate the speed of Account Rollover and was able to steal a :29 second quarter before picking up the tempo around the far turn, taking the field past three-quarters in 1:24.
At this point, the favorite got a fresh challenge from the second choice, Long Live Rock, who was pressing the pace first over. As the field turned for home, Account Rollover maintained his lead on Long Live Rock, Kings Barns was trying to rally off cover while Dragon Lore was looking for racing room between horses. But Account Rollover was able to hold everybody off to score the win in 1:51.
Account Rollover won for the third consecutive start and 11th time in his career for trainer James Eaton and owner Robert Silberbeg. His driver, Vincent Ginsburg, found the winner’s circle three times on the night.
In other action, Ontario Success won the upper-level conditioned pacing event for the second consecutive week, holding off favored Odds On Equuleus in a sharp 1:50 performance that included a :26.2 final quarter while taking the field wire-to-wire.
Ontario Success was one of three winners on the card for Joe Bongiorno, who earned the win for trainer Ron Burke, Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.
Meadowlands Pace-eligible Badiou Hanover made his presence felt on the Saturday program, winning for the third consecutive start and the first time at The Meadowlands. The gelded son of Well Said put forth a lifetime best effort, winning a non-winners of three conditioned event in 1:50.2 for trainer Julie Miller and owners Pinske Stables and James Simpson.
The fifth race 20 cent Jackpot Super Hi-5 was not hit once again and the carryover now stands at $165,662, while the last race Jackpot Super Hi-5 also went unclaimed and that carryover grew to $144,277.
Total handle was flat when compared to the same date in 2014, but when compared to the night of the North America Cup in 2014, The Meadowlands handle this year showed a 15 percent increase.
Racing resumes on Friday (June 26), with the preliminary round of the Ms. Hot To Trot competition with post time at 7:15 p.m.
