Meadowlands sets date for NHHC

The 2008 National Harness Handicapping Championship has been set for June 21 at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, NJ.

The NHHC is the only championship tournament for harness players to feature a $50,000 guaranteed grand prize. Players may earn their way into the June championship through participation in a qualifying tournament at an NHHC partner outlet or by direct buy-in. The cost to enter the 2008 NHHC is $1,000 [$600 entry fee and $400 tournament bankroll].

The Meadowlands will host its first NHHC Qualifier of the season on Saturday, February 23. The top two finishers in the qualifier will advance to the NHHC Final in June. Plus, the top 10 receive prize money. Entry forms and tournament information will be available online at www.meadowlandsracetrack.com and at Guest Service locations inside the racetrack.

Partner outlets in the 2007 NHHC included: Balmoral Park, Bangor Raceway, Brandywine Turf Club, Buffalo Raceway, Cal-Expo, Capital OTB/Albany Teletheater, Freehold Raceway, Harrington Raceway, Los Alamitos, The Meadows, Mohegan Sun, Pocono Downs, Western Regional OTB/Batavia Downs and Winticket.com.

Jim Famularo of Toms River, NJ, was the grand prize winner of the 2007 NHHC. Famularo earned his way into the championship through a qualifier at the Meadowlands. James Goldenberg, the runner-up, came by way of Balmoral Park. The 2006 championship went to Scott Alberg of Washington Township, NJ, while Jim Lange of Cohoes, NY, runner-up in the Capital OTB qualifier, was the tournament’s inaugural champ in 2005.
