100+ FRESHMEN SET TO QUALIFY
A total of 109 2-year-olds are set to qualify on Tuesday morning at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, comprising 16 of the 19 races on the morning card. The first three races of the morning will be for older horses, followed by the freshmen. Qualifying races are held at The Meadows every Tuesday morning, with post time for the summer now moved to 10:30am. The qualifiers are being offered live for the summer on Race Track Network’s online platform, and are also shown live on the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association’s Facebook page, and archived at www.youtube.com/themsoa.
PALONE TO THE TOP
Perennial Meadows driving champ Dave Palone has taken over the top spot among all local drivers, using a strong week to pull ahead of Ronnie Wrenn. The two drivers entered the Saturday (June 14) card tied with 181 wins, but while Wrenn took the day off to drive Louprint in the North America Cup, Palone drove seven winners to pull away from Wrenn, 188-181.
TROTTER’S WIN STREAK ENDS
Chapolier, a 7-year-old Chapter Seven gelding, finished second in the Open Handicap Trot at The Meadows on Friday (June 13) night. While it was another strong showing, it ended a lengthy win streak. Going into the race, Chapolier had won 13 races in a row, mostly in top-level claimers at Pocono Downs. The final two wins in the streak came in the Open level at The Meadows for trainer Johnny Yoder. Chapolier has now banked more than $110,000 this year in 16 starts.
