Columbus, OH — Christmas arrived just a bit early for reinsman Aaron Merriman when he collected his 1,000th victory in 2017 behind Official Kisser on Saturday (Dec. 2) in the sixth race at Northfield Park.
Merriman now becomes only the fourth person in harness racing to accomplish that feat and the first in a decade.
With this triumph for trainer Herman Hagerman and Spring Haven Farm, Merriman joins Tim Tetrick (1,189) in 2007, Walter Case Jr. (1,077) in 1996 and Tony Morgan (1,004) in 2006 as the only individuals to achieve that milestone.
Merriman is also the only driver to amass more than 800 victories in four consecutive years, with Morgan owning the previous standard by virtue of his performances in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He also captured more than 800 wins in 1996.
