Northville, MI — Michigan horse racing and Northville Downs were represented in the Northville Independence Day parade on July 4 by Augie’s, driven by Skip DeMull, and Bold Decision, driven by Steve Main. A contingent of Michigan horsemen were also part of the group that walked as ambassadors for the sport.
Thousands of people lined the parade route through the streets of Northville and the children, especially, were thrilled to see these two beautiful animals which were the lone equestrian entry. Both geldings behaved like perfect gentlemen through all of the excitement.
Augie’s, a retired Standardbred who raced until he was 14, is owned by Skip DeMull of South Lyon, Mich. Bold Decision, owned by Crystal Terrell (Serra) and Chris Terrell of Macomb, Mich., is currently racing at Northfield Park.
This is the third year that Augie’s and the Michigan horsemen have participated; the first year winning the award for “Most Unique Entry” in the parade.
Racing continues at Northville Downs on Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 22.
