Toronto, ON — Not even a post 10 start could stop Modern Legend and Jack Moiseyev from sweeping the C$50,000 Snowshoe Pacing Series final on Saturday night (Jan. 21) at Woodbine.
After being victorious in the two legs prior to Saturday evening, the son of Modern Art-Ruby Cam also equaled the stakes record as he stopped the timer in 1:52.2.
Moiseyev wasted little time off the gate as he sent Modern Legend to the front past the opening station in :26.3. Pisti (Keith Oliver) was in the pocket with Cobalt Man (Scott Zeron) sitting third.
Sent off as the 3-5 post time favorite, Modern Legend coasted past the half in :55.2 and three-quarters in 1:24.3. Big League (Jody Jamieson) began the first-over attack around the final turn and was within one length of the tempo-setter at the top of the stretch.
Turning for home, Moiseyev asked his charge for more pace and the eight-time winner responded to score the victory by four lengths. Warrawee Nonsuch (Randy Waples) finished second with Big League third.
“You never know what other drivers are going to do in a race, but I wanted my horse to be up near the front,” Moiseyev said after the race. “Once we made the front, he relaxed and we were able to get a slow quarter out of it. Turning for home, I was pretty confident that they weren’t going to catch me.”
Bred/owned and trained by Dave Drew, Modern Legend increased his bankroll to C$126,086. He boasts a career record of 8-2-0 from 12 career starts. Modern Legend paid $3.50 for the win.
