Monaco wins GSY Series event at The Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ — On a cold and good surface at the mile circuit, the amateur drivers were at it again Friday night (Nov. 13) in the opening race at The Meadowlands.

After a contentious duel for the lead into the first turn and one breaker, Badix Hanover (Robert Hechkoff) found himself on the lead and wasn’t letting anyone else to the front. He was challenged by post time favorite Watchmeneighneigh (Tony Beltrami) near the half and this continued as the field entered the far turn.

The closers began calling and they came from all angles and lanes in the stretch.  Walks of Life (Marianna Monaco) looked like an easy winner down the lane but managed a neck victory over a  hard-charging Tailgunner Hanover (Juan Cano). Hechkoff staved off a late rally by Good Day Mate (James Foley) to hold onto third.  The mile went in 1:54.2 over the good, rain-soaked stone dust.

The 10-year-old gelding is out of Western Ideal, is trained by Vincent Stallworth and owned by Paul Lang of NJ.

The GSY series will take a short break next week but be back in full circle the following week at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday and the Meadowlands on Friday night.  Don’t miss the exciting action of these races along with other great harness races
