Monticello Raceway horsemen thank their association

Monticello, NY — Since March 12, when live racing was halted at Monticello Raceway due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the horsemen have been without purse checks.

The Monticello Harness Horsemen’s Association, Inc. has been supplying the many horsemen in the backstretch of Monticello Raceway with straw, hay and feed since the cancellation of racing.

The horsemen are really appreciative of the efforts of the MHHA. As echoed by horseman John DeSimone, “I don’t know how we would have been able to get through this without their help. They have gone above and beyond!”

Monticello Harness Horsemen’s Association President Alan Schwartz noted that “The Association is committed to serving our horsemen — not only in times like this — but if it means taking care of their horses or when our members are ill or hurt, in times of family problems or simply lending a hand when it’s needed. It is our obligation to take care of our own. The feed, hay and straw program will continue until racing resumes. Hopefully, soon!”
