Nandolo N wins Open Handicap Pace; Pick-6 carries over at Yonkers

Yonkers, NY — Nandolo N came up just two-fifths of a second shy of the track record after winning Monday night’s (Nov. 8) $43,000 Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway in 1:50.

Tattoo Artist, piloted by David Miller since scheduled driver Dexter Dunn was off after getting banged up in an accident on Sunday afternoon at Harrah’s Philadelphia, employed his strong early speed from post three and put up an opening quarter of :26.4 and a half of :54.3. Nandolo N, with Jason Bartlett in the bike, watched that transpire from the three-hole, then went first-over on the third turn.

At the 1:22 three-quarters, Tattoo Artist was still in front, but Nandolo N had made his way into second, and he continued to pressure Tattoo Artist around the final bend. In the lane Nandolo N finally forged his way by Tattoo Artist, then held off a charging Leonidas A, steered by Austin Siegelman, by three-quarters of a length. Tattoo Artist had to settle for third.

Shane Tritton trains Nandolo N, a 7-year-old Betterthancheddar gelding, for owner Team Tritton Inc. Nandolo N won for the sixth time in 2021, now has 15 career victories, and pushed his lifetime earnings to $277,450. The 2-1 second choice, Nandolo N paid $6.80 to win and led a $48.80 exacta and a $107.50 trifecta.

In other news from Monday’s program, nobody was able to get six-of-six in the $1 Pick-6, and the carryover on Tuesday night’s (Nov. 9) program will be $5,912.65. The Pick-6 gets underway in the third race and has a takeout rate of 20 percent.

Tuesday night’s action at Yonkers begins at 7:15 p.m.
