Northern Rein, Steve’s Hot Rod repeat in Saratoga series

Saratoga Springs, NY — Northern Rein and Steve’s Hot Rod both recorded repeat wins in the Charlie Hoffman Pacing Series at Saratoga Casino Hotel, as they captured their respective $10,000 second-round divisions on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 28).

After recovering from an early break to prevail in the first round, Northern Rein and driver Leon Bailey left for a pocket trip before brushing to the lead and drawing away from his rivals to win by 4-1/2-lengths in 1:55.2. Kerin Warner trains the 6-year-old son of American Ideal.

Steve’s Hot Rod stayed red-hot with a 1:56 score in the second division. The 7-year-old son of Voracious Hanover worked hard to get the top, but once he did, it was over, as he coasted to his seventh win of the season by four lengths. Jay Randall, who drove for trainer Andy Gardner, also won the $15,000 Open Pace, as Rob Harmon’s Macheasy A scored his fifth local top-level win of the season.

Live racing at Saratoga continues Monday afternoon (Nov. 29) with first post time set for 12 noon.
