Dover, DE — Nova Artist made a big move at the three-quarters to take command in the $30,000 Delaware Special while Dancin Yankee closed strongly to win the $30,000 Preferred/Open pace at Dover Downs on Monday, Dec. 12.
After just missing by a neck in last week’s Delaware Special, Allan Davis sent Eddie and Kathy Davis’ Nova Artist past battling leaders Highbeam Rusty N (Matt Kakaley) and Cams Art (Dave Miller) heading to the far turn and the Real Artist-Avon Lady 4-year-old quickly opened up a 4 length lead on the way to a 1:50.1 career best clocking. Kiss My Art (Cory Callahan) came on between horses to finish second in front of Eagle All (Ross Wolfenden). Highland Rusty finished fourth.
Nova Artist, trained by Martin Davis, won for the seventh time this year advancing his seasonal earnings to $151,715 and $433,947 lifetime.
Dave Miller guided Dancin Yankee to a 1:51.4 score in the $30,000 Preferred/Open. Trained by meet leader Josh Green, the Bob Briley and Baron Racing Stable’s colt, the only 3-year-old in the race, won for the second straight week. That’s Justice (Matt Kakaley) was runner-up. Schoolkids (Pat Berry) was the show horse.
Four Corners started in the second tier and came on for Montrell Teague to notch a 1:53.2 victory in a $16,500 3, 4&5-Year-Old pace. The 3-year-old son of Four Starzzz Shark-Place It Here recorded his seventh win of 2011 advancing his bankroll to $69,853 in this his first year of racing for owner/ trainer George Teague, Ted Gewertz, Pitt Bull and Class Personified Stables. PT Storm (Jim Morand) was second best. Win A New Day (Corey Callahan) was third.
Corey Callahan finished the day with four wins. Trainer Josh Green haltered three winners. Trainer Bruce Saunders had a double as did driver Matt Kakaley.
A $23,000 Male Open pace headlines the Tuesday card.
