Ocean Downs Hosts Sophomore Standardbred Fund Stakes

Berlin, MD – Ocean Downs hosted the Maryland Standardbred Fund Stakes for three-year-olds on Thursday (Sept. 3) and Friday (Sept. 4).

On Thursday evening, two splits for pacing fillies went to post as races one and five, both having a purse of $11,800.

Bolt Of Beauty (Bolt The Duer) with Allan Davis in the bike and Chart Topper (Bettor’s Delight) with Sean Bier were two and three deep past the quarter pole when Bolt Of Beauty took the lead and Chart Topper settled in the pocket, striding away from the field in the first division. Bolt of Beauty stopped the clock in 1:54.2 for trainer Erv Miller and owners Ervin Miller Stable Inc., Tanah Merah Farms LLC and Sara Miller. Winbak Farm was the breeder.

In the second split, reinsman Corey Callahan sent I’d Be Rich (Rusty’s For Real) flying out of the gate from post five, to control all of the markers in the 1:55.2 mile, pacing the last quarter in 27.4 on the half mile oval. Breeze Away B (Nuclear Breeze) took the place spot. Shaun Callahan trains the winner for his father Nick Callahan.

The outstanding trotting colt Yall Beneath Me a son of GooGoo GaaGaa, won his fourth stake in a row at Ocean Downs in the single $17,950 stake for the trotting colts and geldings by his biggest margin yet, 18-1/4 lengths. Give Em More (Lockkeeper) finished second. Russell Foster was between the wheels for owner/trainer/breeder Richard Hans.

Friday night’s edition for three-year-old trotting fillies started in race two with a purse of $18,675.

With the favorite making a break at the start and fillies three deep until the quarter pole driver Roger Plante Jr. settled long-shot Trout’s Legacy (Charlie De Vie) in fourth until the 5/8 pole where he pulled first over, clearing the leader Goodygoodytwoshoes (GooGoo GaaGaa) at the head of the stretch to win in 2:01.1 by a half-length. Steve LeBlanc trains Trout’s Legacy for owner/breeder Dr. William Solomon.

Nvrfearlloydishere (Rusty’s All In) picked up his sixth straight win at Ocean Downs in his gate to wire victory in the lone division for pacing colts and geldings going for a purse of $20,150 in race six. Reinsman Eddie Davis Jr. has been in the bike for all six wins for trainer Arlene Cameron and owner/breeder Pan Wagner. Place went to Tom’s All In (Rusty’s All In) time of the mile was 1:55.4.
