Ohio Select Sale overflowing with current and potential talent

Circleville, OH — The Ohio Selected Jug Yearling Sale is just one week away on Friday (Sept. 16) at the Pickaway Ag Center, Circleville, Ohio, which means that the majority of the Buckeye state’s Standardbred owners and trainers are watching videos and looking for that next champion harness horse.

There are 277 yearlings cataloged, and the auction will get underway at 10 a.m. Friday with a special Show Day on Thursday (Sept. 15). As always, the sales company and breeders will provide complimentary food and refreshments from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, while prospective purchasers peruse the expansive offerings.

A change in the racing schedule has moved the $2.4 million Ohio Super Night to Saturday (Oct. 1) at Dayton Raceway, with some divisional stars still vying for their place in the rich finals this weekend at Scioto and Northfield.

World champion A Real Legend, an Ohio Selected Jug Sale 2021 graduate, already has his ticket punched as he overpowered the 2-year-old male trotters division in his last outing at Northfield, setting a new 1:55 half-mile track benchmark. A $32,000 yearling purchase for trainer/co-owner Rosy Weaver with Heartland Acres, he was sold under the Hickory Lane Horse Farm banner, which also happens to stand his sire Uncle Peter.

Hickory Lane Horse Farm will offer a beautiful full sister to A Real Legend (Hip #195, Pink Memories) in their consignment.

Another 2021 Ohio Selected Jug Sale graduate, Rose Run Yolanda, just picked up her fourth consecutive stakes victory by six open lengths while capturing her division of the Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old trotting fillies at Scioto on Sept. 8 in 1:58.1. A $50,000 yearling purchase, she was bred and sold by Rose Run Farm and is now campaigned by Black Magic Racing and trainer Todd Luther and has earned at total of $111,000 thus far this season.

Rose Run Farm will offer a Long Tom half-brother to Rose Run Yolanda (Hip #124, Rose Run Zickem) in next week’s auction.

Several top established and first-crop Ohio-based sires (five or more) are represented at the sale, including Bit Of A Legend N (5), Creatine (11), Dancin Yankee (13), Downbytheseaside (42), Enterprise (19), Fear The Dragon (34), Full Count (5), Lather Up (21), Long Tom (33), Racing Hill (11), Uncle Peter (16), Volstead (7), What The Hill (33), and Yankee Cruiser (7).
