Milton, ON — The Ontario Sires Stakes season concludes Saturday night (Oct. 15) at Woodbine Mohawk Park with eight divisional Gold Super Finals worth a total of C$1.8 million. Check out our notes on each of the C$225,000 divisions.

RACE 1: Two-year-old trotting fillies

This division has been dominated by standout filly Righteous Resolve, who has won seven times from eight starts this season. She drew post three and has been labeled the 4-5 favorite by morning line. Veteran OSS trainer John Bax conditions and Paul MacDonell drives.

Other storylines to watch for include Shiny New Penny, from the first crop of Alarm Detector who sits in the top-10 of OSS trotting sires despite just six starts from his progeny, and Mass Hysteria, the 6-1 second choice, looking to give trainer Kyle Bossence one of the biggest scores of his career.

RACE 2: Two-year-old trotting colts and geldings

Trainer John Bax is harnessing a trio in this 10-horse field, including the 6-1 fourth choice and 8-1 fifth choice by morning line, Oh Look Magic and Snowpiercer, who both drew outside post positions, nine and eight, respectively.

Tuscan Prince is the top morning line choice at 7-2, looking to give his legendary sire Kadabara one more Super Final winner.

Osceola also looks threatening, coming in off a Gold win last time out, and if the blazing fast colt can mind his manners on the corners, as driver Doug McNair said he did in the victory, he’ll be in the mix.

RACE 3: Three-year-old trotting fillies

Adare Castle has used the OSS as a personal ATM the past two seasons, earning C$693,100 and posting a record of 9-2-0 from 11 starts. The recently minted millionaire will look to close off her incredible career in the provincial program with a second consecutive Super Final win for trainer Mark Etsell.

Among the upset minded is Saundra, a Resolve filly who is one of just six horses to best Adare Castle in her entire career.

Mischievous Rose and Babylongstocking are the second and third choices by morning line, reflecting their two-three finish behind Adare Castle in the final Gold leg on Oct. 6 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

RACE 4: Two-year-old pacing fillies

The top six horses in this division won all nine of the divisions contested over the five Gold legs. Cheesy Smile, Big Big Plans, and Savethelastdance doubled up, and Lyonsbettorday, Starlight Dancer and Momentary Control all nabbed one.

All six have drawn into the final, setting up a fun fight for Super Final glory.

Big Big Plans would give freshman sire All Bets Off a Super Final win from his first crop.

RACE 5: Three-year-old pacing fillies

The Millar Farms bred and owned, and Nick Gallucci trained three-headed monster of Prohibition Legal, Silver Label, and Velvet Stinger headlines the field, led by 2021 O’Brien Award winner Prohibition Legal who comes in off an impressive Gold win last time out, after a six-week layoff.

The last Gold leg was the closest Silver Label has been to Prohibition Legal, as she came within a head of catching her stablemate on Sept. 26 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Velvet Stinger has racked up C$256,557 in earnings this year, and comes in hot, winning her last three starts.

The three fillies won five of the eight Gold divisions this season, and the other three winners are in the field looking for an upset: Goudawon, I Loveongait, and In The Mood.

RACE 7: Three-year-old trotting colts and geldings

Morning line has tipped the defending Super Final winner and runner-up as the top two choices but flip-flopped the order.

Duly Resolved, a 2021 O’Brien Award winner and Super Final runner-up, is the 7-2 first choice, and comes in off an all-ages trotting track record in his last start at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.

The 2021 Super Final winner Twin B Archie will be fresh, with three weeks off after the Canadian Trotting Classic. He is 3-1 on the morning line.

The two rivals have a combined C$808,049 in OSS earnings between them.

RACE 8: Two-year-old pacing colts

Stockade Seelster headlines the penultimate OSS division of the evening. The State Treasurer colt has already earned close to C$750,000 in his incredible freshman campaign. The winner of the 2022 Metro Pace, and seven of eight starts, established a new OSS record for 2-year-olds in his final Gold start on Sept. 3. What will he have in store in the Super Final?

Gold winners Moment Is Here and Whatchulookin At are among those trying to upset the freshman pacing king.

RACE 9: Three-year-old pacing colts

The glamour boys go in the final OSS race of the evening. Cold Creek Queso comes in sixth on the regular season points list, but red-hot form has him tabbed as the early top-choice by morning line.

St Lads Sterling also comes in showing some of his best form of the season, and top Ontario sired Pepsi North America Cup finisher Ron is looking for his breakthrough OSS win on the biggest stage of the season, after posting a record of 0-1-4 this season at the top level of the provincial program.
