Hughesville PA — The Pennsylvania fair circuit was glad to get back to racing both 2- and 3-year-olds at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds since bad weather had cost each stakes class a day of racing the last two fair stops.

The fastest miles on Wednesday’s (July 14) day for freshmen were in 2:07.1 by a trotting filly and pacing colt in the “B” division of the Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes.

Stepping into the spotlight were the Cantab Hall–Celebrity Sweedie miss Shayna Rosa, now 2-for-3 on the fair circuit for trainer/driver Bill Daugherty Jr. and owner Susan Daugherty, and the Sweet Lou–Wide Open colt Wound Tight for his owner/trainer/driver Roger Hammer.

Fastest mile of the meet was turned in on Thursday (July 15) by the winningest 2-year-old in North America in 2020, the Betting Line filly Lazy Day Hanover, who was timed in 2:03.4 for the owning partnership of driver Dave Brickell and trainer Mitchell York. In the very next race, that same pair had Tiamogonedancin, 2020 Fair Championship winner, and she won and may have gone as fast or faster, but the timing failed.

Two other 2020 Fair Championship winners succeeded at Hughesville: the Bar Hopping ridgling Top Me Off, home in 2:05.2 for trainer/driver Todd Schadel and co-owned by him, his wife Christine, and Rick and Regina Beinhauer; and the Artspeak colt Terry A Hanover, again for Todd Schadel, in 2:04, with Christine owning this one in partnership with Caitlin Solt.

It was Todd’s brother Tony who garnered the driving honors for the two-day meet with six visits to Victory Lane; five of Tony’s six were trained by wife Linda, which tied her atop the conditioners ladder with Bob Rougeaux III and Mitchell York.

Next on the fair circuit is a trip to Bedford, with the draw on Tuesday for Thursday and Friday racing at 3 p.m.
