by Dean A. Hoffman, for Scioto Downs
Columbus, OH — On a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon (September 4), Photo Sport took the featured Ohio Lottery Race at Scioto Downs with a front-stepping victory in 1:59 over the sloppy track.
It was only the second win in 34 lifetime starts for Photo Sport.
Dan Noble, Scioto’s leading driver, was in the bike behind the son of SJ’s Photo. He was sent off at odds of 7-1 by the public, but Noble showed confidence in his horse and put him on the lead from the start. Agency Discount followed in second while favored Victory’s Desire waited in third place.
The first quarter was covered in :29.1 and the half in :59.3 with no change in positions.
During the third quarter Victory’s Desire moved to challenge Photo Sport, but Noble and his trotter rebuffed that attack and simply drew away in the homestretch to win by three lengths. Agency Discount held second while Heavenly Chip rallied from far back to get third. Victory’s Desire faded to fourth.
The winner, trained by Keith Bartley and owned by the Holmes Stock Farm, paid $15.80 to win.
Dan Noble and Kayne Kauffman, the two leading drivers at Scioto, each had three winners on the afternoon program.
Scioto continues its holiday weekend racing with a 1 p.m. program on Monday.
