The Port Royal Speedway, an auto racing track most of the summer, welcomed a different kind of horse power on Tuesday night, September 4, as the Pennsylvania County Fair Racing Circuit arrived for a 10-race card.

Todd Schadel opened the night with a pair of victories in the bike. In the $4,128 PASS 2-year-old colt trot, Keystone Teddy picked up the win in 2:08. A son of Lindy Lane, Keystone Teddy is owned by Schadel and Roger Hammer, and trained by Schadel.

Tarport Majorette was a 2:07 winner for Todd Schadel.

Schadel returned to the winner’s circle in the next race, the first division of the 2-year-old filly trot, with Tarport Majorette. The Broadway Hall filly scored in 2:07 for owners EJ Ercolani and Mickey Peterson.

The second split provided a close finish, as Coyote Lara, owned, trained and driven by Kim Good, got up in the final stride to best frontrunning RT Barbwire (Robert Rougeaux). Coyote Lara, a Malabar Millennium filly, picked up her fourth win of the season, and lowered her lifetime mark to 2:08.

Steve Schoeffel then took over the winner’s circle, guiding Special Character (Shady Character) to a 2:03.3 victory in the first division of the PASS 2-year-old colt pace. Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel own the winner along with Marian Schilling. Special Character is now five for 11 on the season.

Schoeffel swept the frosh colt pace, as Drive All Night scored in the second division, pacing the mile in a fast 2:01.2, with a last half of :58.3, and a last quarter in :27.4. Drive All Night, a Real Artist gelding, has now won seven of his 11 starts this season.

The evening’s richest race, the $4,274 PASS 2-year-old filly pace, was won by Allamerican Swift, with Winston Lineweaver in the bike. It was the second consecutive win for the Real Artist filly, who won on Sunday at the Great Stoneboro Fair. Bill Kreutzer owns and trains the winner.

After the Sires Stakes action had concluded, Quaker Stakes took center stage, with Erio Hanover scoring in the 2-year-old trot. A Tejano colt, Erio Hanover trotted in 2:10 for trainer/driver Joe Offutt. Genevieve Louk owns the winner.

Schoeffel’s third win of the night came in the 2-year-old Quaker Pace, as Paxsonville won in just his second career start for trainer/driver Schoeffel. Terry Schoeffel owns the winner, a gelding by Dream Away. The final time was 2:01.

Racing continues at Port Royal on Wednesday afternoon, September 5, with 3-year-olds in action.
