Power-packed Riegle Pace field headlines Greenville (Ohio) finale

Greenville, OH — The weeklong harness racing meet at the Great Darke County Fair ends Thursday (Aug. 25) with the Gene Riegle Memorial, featuring 2021 Ohio Horse of the Year, millionaire Charlie May.

Charlie May will have plenty of company in the eight-horse field as Tellmeaboutit comes in fresh off a 1:47.4 win at Harrah’s Hoosier Park last Friday (Aug. 19). The field also features a mare who will take on the boys for the first time ever in the Riegle Memorial, 2021 Jugette competitor Smothastenesewisky, who boasts a lifetime best of 1:48.4, taken last year at Lexington.

The Arnie Almahurst Trot features Greenville trotting track record holder I Know My Chip, along with plenty of other dance partners, such as Smoking Jet, who comes into the Arnie off a 1:52.1 win on the half-mile track at MGM Northfield Park.

The undercard features 11 splits of the Parshall Memorial Stakes, which has a total purse in excess of $100,000. The 15-race card goes to post at 5:30 p.m., and the Greenville Municipal Band will be in the house providing entertainment between races.

The first 1,000 fans in the grandstand who purchase a program will receive a commemorative craft glass featuring all the Riegle winners from the past. Additionally, the Ohio Colt Racing Association will provide poker chips to go along with the glasses. One side features the ORCA logo, and the other side shows the Dr. H.M. Parshall Memorial logo.
