Columbus, OH — The Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association and Maywood/Balmoral have agreed to increase purses across the board by approximately 50 percent, effective immediately, according to a posting on the IHHA website.
The purse increases were announced after the Illinois horse racing industry received $141 million that had been collecting in an escrow account, money that was finally released to the tracks.
The posting went on to say, “We will monitor the situation closely in the next few months. Once the Fall Veto session concludes in Springfield in November we will be able to further plan our future.”
