Sunday’s (September 18) edition of Racing Roundup features a results story from Colonial Downs.
Driving triples highlight Colonial card
New Kent, VA — Chuck Perry and John Wagner scored driving triples Sunday afternoon on a day that Colonial Downs featured a training flat race, a pari-mutuel steeplechase race and ten harness races.
Perry connected with Take The Field, Doc’s Bonanza and Back in the Day while Wagner scored with a trio of Manley Brown trainees that included Victory Nut, Salazar and Suwanee River.
Brown had 11 horses in to go Sunday including entries in all three division legs of the Doug and Todd Parker Memorial Trotting Series. Arlene Cameron’s Touch of Grace (1:58.2) edged Brown’s Bee’s Knees in the first contest. Victory Nut (1:57.4) took the next Parker division and Suwanee River (1:58.2) captured the final division.
The U Gotta Win One Now Pacing Series also kicked off Sunday and featured a trio of three-quarter mile races. Colonial had success with the short distance races last fall, carding as many as twelve in a weekend. Take The Field and Doc’s Bonanza both won divisions in 1:24.1 while Gencor’s Ztam had a 1:23.3 clocking in the final “sprint”.
