Sunday’s (September 25) edition of Racing Roundup features a results story from Saratoga Casino and Raceway. Shacked Up scores in Saratoga feature Saratoga Springs, NY — Classy mare Shacked Up made her local debut a winning one in Sunday’s feature at Saratoga Casino and Raceway.
The 5-year-old mare came to town for trainer Josh Green to compete in the matinee’s $18,000 Open for fillies and mares. Shacked Up (Western Terror) moved out to the lead heading to the quarter pole, overcoming her outside post position to take command through a first quarter of :27.3.
Dan Cappello, Jr. sat behind the mare who has now won more than $1.3 million in her career as she dug in in the stretch to hold off the late bid by fellow invader Special Sweetheart (Greg Merton), who came up just a nose shy of the upset.
For the 4-5 favorite Shacked Up, it was her eighth victory on the season and the 25th in 66 career races. Special Sweetheart put in a strong effort for second while Diva Delight (Stephane Bouchard) was third.
Reinsman Stephane Bouchard stole the show on Sunday as the veteran had a six-win afternoon.
