Subtle Perfection runs win streak to four at Saratoga
Saratoga Springs, NY — A pair of win streaks were on the line in Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s featured ninth race on Wednesday evening. Claiming pacers Subtle Perfection (The Panderosa) and Ooby Dooby (Ice Chaser) both brought three race win streaks into the $5,500 conditioned claimer. While Ooby Dooby was the race’s even money favorite, it was Subtle Perfection who would move his streak to four.
Chris Long sat behind the 4-year-old pacer who had registered his last two victories on the front end. That trend continued as Subtle Perfection marched out to an early lead but seemed to be on the ropes heading to the three-quarter pole. Confronted by a host a rivals, Subtle Perfection saw his lead slipping away but dug in and actually drew clear again turning for home.
The 6-1 shot stopped the timer in 1:57 to complete his grand slam, going four-for-four since coming to town in August. Ooby Dooby (Jim Devaux) closed valiantly for second but the favorite came up well shy of the streaking winner. War And Peace (Jordan Derue) was third.
The victory was one of two on the night for Chris Long and trainer Robyn Mangiardi who also saw their Mindexy (Count Dexter) register a lifetime mark, winning in 1:58.3 in the evening’s fourth race.

Rarely do horses driven by dash leading driver Jack Flanigen go off at 25-1 but that was the case on Wednesday night when Justine Colleen took the short route home to upset in the $7,000 Filly and Mares Open Trot at Batavia Downs Casino. Leaving alertly from post four, Flanigen was able to sit the two hole with the 8-year-old Inquirer mare, behind the front running Bigfinewoman (Kevin Cummings), who set fractions of :28.3, 1:00 and 1:29.2. Down the lane Justine Colleen ($52.50) trotted right by Bigfinewoman for a 1-1/4 length score in 1:59.3 for owners Jeffry and Richey Meyers and trainer Jim Graham. Isthatallyagot (Chris Page) was farther back in third. In the $9,000 Filly and Mares Open Pace, being at the back of the pack early paid dividends as The Grey Filly (Flanigen) and favorite Allamerican Tout (Chris Page) slugged it out on the top end to a half in :56.1. When the dust settled it was Wild West Angel who closed from fifth, six lengths back, to notch her 13th win of the season in 1:55.2 for driver Kevin Cummings and leading trainer John Mungillo. Nancy Irene, last week’s Open winner, closed from last to be second while Firiel Hanover (Dave McNeight III), who got shuffled back to last, rallied to be third. Wild West Angel is owned by Black Magic Racing LLC.
