Summer Camp survived a photo finish to win Monday’s Open Handicap in 1:51.2 at Dover Downs.
Summer Camp took the lead on the final turn then had to hold on for ‘dear life’ as Southwestern Dream and Tim Tetrick made up a ton of ground in the stretch and Delivered From Zin and Corey Callahan stormed down the lane in a :28 final panel. David Miller drove Summer Camp, a Rocknroll Hanover-Roman Art gelding, to his second ‘Preferred’ win in four weeks for Baron Racing and VIP Internet Stable. The post change from 8 to 2 helped Southwestern Dream while Delivered From Zin continues to show his ability.
Ise The By Boy came back to top form in the $23,000 Open pace. Ron Pierce guided the Mac Three-Prince Lee Fiesta gelding trained by Eric Ell for owners Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar and Steve Iaquinta to his second straight victory annexing a 1:51.1 decision. Arctic Warrior (David Miller) was a strong second. Fancyfreeshark (Jon Roberts) led early and held on for third.

The Meadows
Rebounding from a pair of uncharacteristic off-the-board finishes, Kandor Hanover powered through the Lightning Lane to capture Monday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Trot at The Meadows. Kandor Hanover, who exited four straight races against the track’s top colts and geldings, relished her return to the distaff feature, as she worked out a cozy pocket trip from post 8 for Dave Palone and brushed late to score in 1:55.3. Photo Fantasy was a ground-saving second, 2-1/2 lengths back, with the first-over Anastasia Whinnie third. Bill Zendt trains Kandor Hanover, a 6-year-old daughter of Tagliabue-Katelyns Glory who now boasts career earnings of $456,180, for Online Stables, John Burns and J. Patrick Huber. It was one of four wins for Palone on the 15-race card.
Monticello Raceway
To say that Abaton Hanover has been a model of consistency would be an understatement. When the 9-year-old SJ’s Caviar gelding scored in 2:00.2 at Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon, it was the trotter’s fourth consecutive victory this year. In his final start last season Abaton Hanover finished second, but prior to that the gelding had strung together three consecutive triumphs and now in his last eight starts the veteran trotter has seven victories. In all the aforementioned races Abaton Hanover was driven by Jimmy Marohn, Jr. After starting from the two hole, Abaton Hanover was circled by Contract Hit (Jimmy Devaux) but before the two trotters reached the quarter pole Marohn moved his trotter to the lead and then proceeded to cut the fractions. After being two lengths in front at the halfway point a serious challenge came from Four Star F and Jimmy Taggart, Jr. who raced head to head with Abaton Hanover past the three-quarters and around the final turn. But in the lane Marohn’s charge proved to be the strongest and Abaton Hanover rambled home a 1-1/4-length victor over Four Star F in a season’s best 2:00.1. Owned and trained by Jennifer Lappe the winner paid $3.50.
