Rainbowinthewest survives tough quarter, wins Meadows feature

Washington, PA — The only mare in a field of geldings, Rainbowinthewest survived a demanding opening panel and went on to capture Thursday’s (Oct. 21) feature at The Meadows, a $12,100 conditioned trot.

Rainbowinthewest beat the boys in Thursday’s featured trot at The Meadows, repelling the inside challenge of Walkingintherain by a neck. Chris Gooden photo.

Rainbowinthewest was parked for most of that :28 first quarter before she could cross over. Although she’d been off a month, the 6-year-old daughter of Andover Hall and Miss Milwaukee had enough in the tank for Brian Zendt to repel the Lightning Lane charge of Walkingintherain and defeat him by a neck in 1:55.3. Hashtagmadeyalook completed the ticket.

Robert Rougeaux III trains the winner, who extended her lifetime bankroll to $208,078, for Brocious Racing Stable and Lone Wolf Stable. It was one of three wins for Zendt on the 12-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday (Oct. 22), when the 12-race program features a $63,306.09 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. Post time is 4 p.m.
