Rhodes, Daugherty win GLADA splits

Washington, PA — Parked most of the mile, Floyd “Roper” Rhodes and Back Door Man still had enough in the tank to win a division of Friday’s (May 27) Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association (GLADA) event at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows. Bill “The Flying Antique” Daugherty, Jr. and Enzio captured the other $8,500 split.

Parked the mile, Back Door Man was able to grind out a victory in 1:56.2 to win his GLADA division. Chris Gooden Photo.

Rhodes and Back Door Man got away eighth but were on the go from there, moving three wide past the quarter. They caught the leader, John “Greek” Sikaras (Garrett Scores) at the top of the lane and scored comfortably in 1:56.2. Tom “Mayhem” Svrcek (Berkery J) rallied for second, 5 lengths back, while Sikaras and Robert Barnard (Country Prophet) completed the ticket.

Rhodes owns and trains Back Door Man, a 6-year-old Bluto-Funny Fashion gelding who lifted his lifetime bankroll to $135,967.

Daugherty and Enzio moved first up from third to reach the point but were challenged late by Joelene Christman (Just Like Magic). Daugherty held off that rival by a neck to prevail in 1:55.2. Svrcek (Whiskey Lindy) and Scott Betts (Worthy Of Honor) completed the ticket.

Kelly Paver conditions Enzio, a 6-year-old Neely Dunn-Charged Freight gelding who now boasts career earnings of $150,185, and owns with Julie Davis.

The Meadows will not offer a live card Saturday, as the track is hosting the Greater Pittsburgh Food Truck Festival. Live racing resumes Wednesday when the program features a pair of carryovers — $17,554.38 in the final-race Super Hi-5, $7,968.65 in the Jackpot Pick 5 (race 4). First post is 12:45 p.m.
