Ringostarr Treb denies Propulsion a record in Aabergs Memorial

Top Swedish-owned trotter Propulsion, with Orjan Kihlström, could have won the famous Aabergs Memorial for a record fourth time in a row Tuesday night (July 30) at the Jägersro track in Malmoe, Sweden. But Ringostarr Treb, with Wim Paal, proved too strong and won the prestigious race by a half-length over Propulsion. Both were timed in 1:51.4f.

While Ringostarr Treb was prominent most of the race, he lost the battle for the lead to Uza Josselyn with Erik Adielsson as the first quarter went in :26.2. Propulsion, who had to race from the second tier, was sitting last until 500 meters to go.

Then Kihlström made his move, but Propulsion was too far behind Ringostarr Treb, who took command going down the stretch. Propulsion finished the last half-mile in :54.2 and the last quarter in :27.2.

The purse for the winner was $170,000.

This was the first big win for Ringostarr Treb since he won the Elitlopp last year. The son of Classic Photo is Italian bred and owned and is trained in Sweden by Jerry Riordan.

On the same card, a race for 4-year-old trotters was won by Classichap (sired by Chapter Seven) with Thomas Uhrberg in the bike. Classichap, who was a Hambletonian finalist last year, won in 1.53.1f. This was his first win after being sold to owners in Norway. Classichap is also trained by Jerry Riordan.

Another North American-bred trotter, Double Exposure (sired by Donato Hanover) with Kihlström in the bike, was a very easy winner of an open race for mares over the mile. Double Exposure, who is stablemate to Propulsion in the stable of Daniel Redén, won in 1:54.2f.
