by Frank Cotolo for Breeders Crown
East Rutherford, NJ — Brett Miller drove Roaring To Go to an aggressive final half-mile to win the first $20,000 Breeders Crown elimination for the 2-year-old filly pacers at The Meadowlands on Saturday (Oct. 22).
Trained by Kevin Lare, the daughter of Art Major out of the Western Ideal mare Lioness Hanover, left swiftly from post seven to get the lead, but she didn’t keep it for long as she was overtaken by the favorite, Idyllic Beach, just past the :28.2 first quarter. Idyllic Beach continued on top through a slow half in :57.2, cutting a 1:25.3 three-quarters when Roaring To Go tipped out to challenge, with Agent Q catching his cover.
As the two entered the stretch the duel was brief, as Roaring To Go overpowered the favorite, leaving her behind and winning in 1:52.4. Flying late was Agent Q to get second. Idyllic Beach was third, with That’s The Ticket getting the fourth spot and Brazuca snatching fifth and the last berth for next week’s final.
Roaring To Go, owned by Frank Chick, did not surprise trainer Kevin Lare.
“It’s like I keep telling Frank (Chick) all the time she’s just getting better every week,” he said. “Every time I train her, I’m like she could never be better and the same thing this week, just never better. She’s been very good and he (Brett Miller) knows that she loves to go get a horse and it worked out really well for her. No changes at all (training for the final) except that I have to live in New Jersey this week.”
The win was the seventh in 14 starts for Roaring To Go, who paid $8.80 and stopped the clock in 1:52.4.
Scott Zeron was aboard Tori Hanover for the upset win in the second $20,000 Breeders Crown elimination for 2-year-old filly pacers at The Meadowlands on Saturday (Oct. 22).
The Tony Alagna Somebeachsomewhere-Trim Hanover filly didn’t get much mention until she began to close on the bulk of the field late, storming past favorite Someomensomewhere to win in 1:54.4.
Someomensomewhere was three wide to the first quarter in :28, with Blameitonthenight first over and Rockette at the rail. Someomensomewhere then cut the half-mile in :57.2 and at three-quarters in 1:26.3, Tori Hanover was third over poised to swing out to charge on the group.
Someomensomewhere held for second, while Blameitonthenight got third, Jaye’s A Lady paced well after saving ground to get fourth and Rockette got a berth in the final by finishing fifth.
Jeffrey Snyder owns the winning filly.
After the race Zeron said, “She was the product of a great triptonight. She can really smoke home. I had her in a position where I loaded her three-wide and she gave me everything she had and it was enough. Myron was the one that made me a believer in her and I’m happy to have her in the Breeders Crown.”
Tori Hanover paid $24.20.
