Ron Sobczak, 75, dies

Columbus, OH — Longtime Raceway Park track announcer Ronald ”Ron” Frank Sobczak, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday (June 15) at Regency Hospital, in Toledo, Ohio. He was 75.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, to Frank and Hyacinth (Marciniak) Sobczak. Mr. Sobczak started his career as a DJ in Lima, Ohio, and then moved back to the Toledo area, where his voice could be heard on stations WOHO, WCWA, WMIM and WRQN. More recently, he served as the track announcer at Northville Downs from 2015 through 2021.

Mr. Sobczak is survived by his son, Joshua Sobczak; and two grandchildren, Katalina and Joshua II. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 12 noon-3 p.m. on Saturday (June 18) at the Walker Funeral Home-Oregon Chapel, 3500 Navarre Avenue, Oregon, Ohio, where a memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Ron may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
