East Rutherford, NJ — The Saturday night (June 24) feature at The Meadowlands is the seventh race, a conditioned pace for a purse of $15,000.
The field consists of eight veterans, including the coupled entry of City Hall and Iwillmakeyousaywow who are both owned in part by Gene Oldford and trained by Amber and Todd Buter, respectively. Both horses relish the mile track and have enjoyed their best successes here at The Meadowlands.
The competition is diverse with familiar faces like the $1.95 million winner Bettor’s Edge (Vic Kirby) who needs no introduction; the well-traveled Calvin B (Jon Roberts) also seems to do his best work over the mile; Saratoga shipper Titus Seelster (Eric Abbatiello) who’s been having his way with the top class at The Spa; and the former “King of Maine” Seely Man (Christian Lind), undefeated in the Pine Tree state at two and three but still looking for his first win elsewhere getting significant class relief on Saturday.
There is certain to be a considerable pari-mutuel reward for the punter that solves that puzzle.
Return of Brett Pelling
An interesting aside to Saturday’s races is that Brett Pelling is listed as trainer on Roll N Catch in the third race. The seven-time Meadowlands Trainer of the Year and the track’s all-time leading money winner when he left town was last seen in these parts back on Dec. 30, 2005.
Off the track
The attractions are many, led by a 30 & under free handicapping challenge, $10,000 in college scholarship giveaways and the Summer Wine Festival on what is being billed as Millennial Night at the races.
