Columbus, OH — The countdown to Ohio Super Night has begun at Scioto Downs as the track prepares to host the greatest night of racing in the Buckeye State on Saturday (September 10).
“Scioto hosted Super Night three years ago and it was one of the greatest evenings ever at the track,” says Stacy Cahill, general manager. “We’re hoping that this year it will be even better.”
Since Super Night occurs on the evening of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in 2001, Scioto will honor the victims with a moment of silence before the races.
The feature attractions, of course, are the eight championship finals of the Ohio Sires Stakes, each carrying a purse of $75,000.
Cahill, who is also Director of Racing, says, “These races have some very evenly-balanced fields and that will make for good betting races. It should also produce some very exciting action on the track. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some major upsets on Super Night.”
Throughout the races, the track will feature live music by the suitably-named Trifecta, a country and classic rock group.
“There will be a lot going on,” says Cahill. “We’ve got lots of giveaways, including Little Brown Jug tickets and nine getaway packages to Mountaineer Resort and Casino. We’re also giving away free hats with paid admission.”
Presentations will be made to Dan Noble, leading driver at Scioto this season, and Virgil Morgan, Jr., leading trainer once again.
Also, Cindi Johnson, Scioto’s outstanding outrider, and Barry Conrad, track photographer for many decades, will also be honored during the races.
“All in all, it’s going to be an exciting evening, and a great way to wrap up Scioto’s season,” says Cahill.
The 2011 meet will close the following day with a Sunday afternoon program.
