Harrington, DE — Howard Taylor’s Shine N Shimmer ($5.40, George Dennis) notched her 34th career win Tuesday (Sept. 13) with a 1:52.3 score in the $15,000 Mares Open at Harrington Raceway.
Shine N Shimmer took immediate control from post position three and proceeded to park the 2-5 favorite Purrfect Bags through brutal :26.3 and :54.1 fractions. Purrfect Bags then dropped into the two-hole near three-quarters in 1:23.2 while Shine N Shimmer drew away from the field for a one length score over Sweet Bobbie. Purrfect Bags finished third.
Trained by Mike Hall, Shine N Shimmer increased her seasonal earnings to more than $65,000.
Freshman filly Cashmere’s Delight ($2.20, Jim Morand) remained undefeated and improved to three-for-three lifetime with a new lifetime best 1:56.2 triumph for trainer Les Givens. The Brian P-sired filly is owned by Nanticoke Racing and Donna Messick.
Driver Morand later put another lifetime mark on a mare, this one Capela ($5.40) who was a front end winner in 1:52.4 for owners Legacy Racing of Delaware and Reginald Hazzard. The Wayne Givens-trainee boosted her seasonal earnings to nearly $90,000. Morand had four wins on the program.
George Teague Jr. and K&R Racing’s Destinysbeachbabe ($4.20, Montrell Teague) recorded her fourth straight win with a 1:54.1 triumph for trainer Clyde Francis.
George Dennis had a double.
