Smalltownthrowdown impressive at Freehold Friday

Freehold, NJ — Smalltownthrowdown threw it down to his opposition at Freehold Raceway on Friday (May 21), and no one was able to compete with him. He won the Preferred Handicap Trot by 1-1/2 lengths, just missing the track record for older trotting geldings in the process.

Assigned the outside post position seven, Smalltownthrowdown was the 9-5 second choice. Austin Siegelman left with him and sent him after the lead in the opening quarter. He got to the front and crossed over to the lead by the time they reached the quarter in :27.3. As they rounded the final turn, Smaltownthrowdown retained a comfortable advantage. Windsong Pioneer, who sat in the pocket the whole way, and Top Flight Angel, who moved first-over, tried to challenge, but no one was able to seriously threaten the leader. Smalltownthrowdown crossed the wire in 1:55.1, missing Stormy Kromer’s divisional track record by two-fifths of a second and Mystical Sunshine’s Freehold track record by three-fifths of a second.

Smalltownthrowdown has now won seven times this year from 17 starts, with earnings of more than $65,000. Lifetime, this 8-year-old gelding has won 37 times from 123 starts, earning more than $1.1 million in the process. He is owned by Wish Me Luck Stables and trained by Mike Terpolilli.

Windsong Pioneer, Top Flight Angel, Winneress, Shoemaker Hanover, Drazzmatazz and Warrawee Roo completed the order of finish.
