Tim Tetrick brushed Snazzy Hot Rod to the front in a brisk :54.4 half and the trotter responded when asked to hold off the late charge of Macho Lindy for a 1-3/4 length tally. Cayenne Turbo held his ground for third. Sent off the 2-5 favorite, Snazzy Hot Rod paid $2.80 to win the fifth race.

“I wanted to stay close (to Cayenne Turbo),” Tetrick said. “And Larry Stalbaum’s horse (Macho Lindy) can leave really fast and I didn’t think I could out-kick his horse on the outside, so I let them settle. I made my move down the backside.

“This colt is real handy. He’s open bridle and push button. Down the backstretch I had to use him really hard to get to the front, but after that he got right back in the bit on the last turn. When I called on him, he had a lot of trot left.”

Snazzy Hot Rod, trained by Chris Ryder, notched his eighth victory in 39 career starts and boosted his bankroll to $191,330. Terry Devos bred and owns the 4-year-old son of Mr Lavec.
