Pompano Beach, FL — The Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association and Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park hosted 13 Sunshine State Stakes on Saturday (September 10).
The card produced winning favorites in the undefeated Seeking Jeanie (1:59.4 winner in the 3-year-old filly trot for the Wesgate Storm-Sightseek offspring bred and owned by Arthur Mergenhagen) and Matcan (2:04.1 in the 2-year-old colt trot for the Thomas Tallman bred altered son of Matchem Hanover-Cans Money Maker).
Other impressive winning trot favorites were the 3-year-old colt trotters Lugar (Famously-Chili Vanili in 1:58) and Famous Hall (Famously-Hall Of Stars in 1:59.1).
On the pacing side Six Of Diamonds 2-year-old fillies scored easily. Quail (Six Of Diamonds-Armbro Robin) won her division in 1:57.4 for breeder/owners Kim and Jay Sears and Diamond Amber (Six Of Diamonds-Amber Fields) won impressively in 1:55.1, pacing her final panel in :28.3. Diamond Cowboy (Six Of Diamonds-Money For Munchkin) was sharp in his 2-year-old colt pace score in 1:58.3 with a solid :27.1 last quarter.
In the 3-year-old filly pace the Mannart Howard-Amethyst filly Ruby Howard rolled by favored Gold Star Glitter to score in 1:55.3, pacing her last panel in :27.3, and Creating A Dream (Macadream-Diamondsfrmichelle) captured his first 2011 win in a 3-year-old colt pace division with his 1:56.2 score over Stevie Ray’s Dream.
Wally Hennessey piloted seven stakes winners with Richard Simard posting two wins. Kim Sears delivered three training wins.
Next Saturday (September 17) the Florida-sired stars will be back in action in the fourth leg of the Sunshine Stakes.
