Swedish mare Activated wins another big stakes race

Activated, a 4-year-old mare who two months ago won the prestigious Queens Trophy at Aby, struck again Sunday afternoon (July 21) at Axevalla, as she won the Stochampionat with a purse for the winner of $250.000.

Activated won the 1-5/8 mile event in a mile rate of 1:57.4f. Kanal 75 photo.

Activated, trained by Fredrik Wallin and with Carl Erik Jepson in the bike, had drawn post position 12 (outside in the second tier behind the gate) and during the race, she was placed last in the field.

Going around the last corner it looked like the race favorite, Conrads Rödluva with Ôrjan Kihlkström, was going to win, but on the far outside Activated came flying and won by a half-length followed Racing Brodda, while Conrads Rödluva had to settle for third. Activated won the 1-5/8 mile event in a mile rate of 1:57.4f.

Activated was bred and raised at Menhammar Stud (owned by Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg) and Activated is the fifth generation on the maternal side. She hails back to the mare Obstinat, foaled in 1963 and bred by Olof Wallenius. Also the sire of Activated, Jocose, was bred and raised at Menhammer Stud.

Activated was sold as a yearling for $14,00. She now has earnings of $495,000.

Menhammar Stud was also involved in another big win Sunday. At the Mikkeli track in Finland, the Sct Michels race was won by Makethemark, driven by Ulf Ohlsson in 1:53f. The purse for the winner was $90,000.

Makethemark is the richest offspring to Menhammar-bred Maharajah, who won the Prix d’Amerique and is now a very successful stallion in Sweden. He stands at Menhammar and his book was full and closed in 2019, priced at 5,000 SEK + 75,000 SEK ($8,000).
