Taste of Anderson set for Saturday

Anderson, IN — Several area businesses will be the focus at Hoosier Park on Saturday, May 19, in the first annual Taste Of Anderson. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and free admission will be granted to all patrons bringing in a can of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Businesses featured in the event include Pizza Hut, Applebee’s, Wing’s Etc., Bird’s Smokehouse BBQ, Good’s Candy, Pepsi, Budweiser, the Homestretch Restaurant, and Edy’s Ice Cream. Tickets are available at the event for $2, allowing each patron to test a sample from each booth. All proceeds will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

In addition to the food vendors, other businesses will be represented including the Anderson/Madison County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Immediadent, and Ed Martin car dealership. Each business will have information displayed about their company with Immediadent offering samples from their store.

Live entertainment will be provided by Anderson band Power Tubes beginning at 5:30 p.m. Also, the first 1,000 fans age 18 and older will be awarded a coupon for a hat giveaway following the first race at 6:45 p.m. Free barn tours will be provided until 7:15 p.m. for all patrons.

Notable:

Haynes closing in on milestone. Driver Walter Haynes, Jr. is quickly closing in on a milestone. Heading into the Friday, May 18 program, Haynes has 1,998 career victories with 14 wins at Hoosier Park in 2007.

Carletta Barclay named Employee of the Quarter. Carletta Barclay of the security department was named Employee of the Quarter on Friday, May 11. Rick Moore, Hoosier Park’s president and general manager, made the presentation to Barclay during a special luncheon.

Advanced wagering offered on Preakness. Fans at Hoosier Park will have the chance to place wagers on the 132nd running of the Preakness Stakes beginning on Friday, May 18. The full card from Pimlico, which begins Saturday, May 19, at 11:00 a.m., will be available for advanced wagering.

The evening has become an all-around event for the track and one that people place on their calendars each year. It’s a fun night.”

Upcoming Promotions:

Hogs ‘N Dogs Night. Fans will enjoy the fifth annual Hogs ‘N Dogs Night on Saturday, June 9. The evening will offer Weiner Dog races and a motorcycle show on the north end of the grandstand. Steve Reeves of the television show Steel Horse will make an appearance. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and will include live entertainment and two Flying Frisbee Dog shows.

Belmont Day. Make plans now to watch and wager on the 139th running of the Belmont Stakes, set for Saturday, June 9. The third leg of the Triple Crown will be showcased during the afternoon card, with doors opening early for the event.

Live Standardbred racing continues Wednesday through Sunday. The 61-day meet runs through Saturday, June 30. First post is 6:45 p.m. Simulcasting is offered seven days a week. Doors open daily at 11:00 a.m.
