Columbus, OH — Thomas James Meilhammer Sr., 60, died Feb. 5, 2025.
Born on March 12, 1964, in Salisbury, Md., he was the son of the late Alfred and Mabel E. (Mitchell).
He was a cherished father, brother, and friend to many. He was a devoted father to his children, Timothy Hall (Jarah), Darlene Maldonado (Gio), Thomas Jr. (Christina), Samantha (Matt), Sherri, Matthew and Sarah (Ryan), and a wonderful grandfather to his many grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Joseph (Linda), Steve, Jeff (April), Elaine (Jack) Baumann, Cecelia Hales, Grace Prettyman, Cathy Melson, Elizabeth (Norwood) Beauchamp, and Lisa (Daryl) Vickers; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth; and lifelong companion, Theresa Hall.
Mr. Meilhammer cherished the time he spent fishing and crabbing with his kids and grandkids, creating lasting memories during sunny days on the water.
His love for Standardbreds was evident in his passion for training them and watching them race at Ocean Downs during the summer months — a summer tradition he eagerly anticipated each year.
Mr. Meilhammer was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 64, where he found camaraderie and friendship.
He loved attending family gatherings, barbecues, and birthday parties, filling every occasion with laughter and joy. A daily ritual for him was reading “Our Daily Bread,” a prayer devotional that brought him peace and reflection before the day began. He also enjoyed the excitement of the casino in Harrington, where he loved to test his luck.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service to celebrate his life at Short Funeral Home in Delmar on Thursday (Feb. 13) at 11 a.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
