Wilkes-Barre, PA — Iffrida, a hard-hitting eight-year-old trotting mare, has had the boys’ number at The Downs at Pocono.
Driven by Joe Pavia, Jr. and trained by Carmine Fusco, Iffrida made it three straight in open and open handicap trot company on Tuesday night (August 31) at the Northeastern Pennsylvania racetrack.
The only mare in the race, Iffrida went wire-to-wire in winning the $6,300 Open Handicap Trot. She trotted the mile in 1:572 and is undefeated here in three starts. Her other victories were timed in 1:564 and 1:553.
Iffrida, owned by Howard Jacobs of Livingston, New Jersey, recently established a new track record for an older trotting mare with the 1:553 time. That mile was only one tick off equaling the world record.
She has won nine times in 21 stats this year with two seconds and two thirds. Iffrida has earned more than $65,000 so far in 2004.
