Dover, DE — Tight Lines won the $25,000 Open Trot in the slop at Dover Downs on Tuesday night (Dec. 10).
Tight Lines and driver Ross Wolfenden left alertly, but allowed Jack Vernon to reach the front at the quarter pole in :27.4 before retaking the lead and controlling a :56.4 half. Royal Becca J braved the wind and rain to race first-up down the backstretch, pressuring Tight Lines through three-quarters in 1:25.1. Tight Lines, the 1-5 favorite, proved to be too much and pulled away in the stretch to win in hand, defeating Jack Vernon and Royal Becca J by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:53.4.
Tight Lines is owned by trainer Jeff Gregory in partnership with the Jesmeral Stable and William Richardson.
Art Stafford Jr., who was the leading driver at Harrington Raceway, won four races on the Dover Downs card.
