Tokyo Seelster rockets past Zapaca to win feature at Vernon Downs

Vernon, NY – Tokyo Seelster (Truman Gale) captured the $10,000 Open 2/Open 1 Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (Oct. 14).

Tokyo Seelster ($10.80) went straight to the front but Zapaca (John MacDonald) went on by and was first to the quarter in :26.4.  He used a :29 second quarter to be first to the half in :55.4.  Tokyo Seelster made his move first-over heading around the final turn.  Zapaca led to three-quarters in 1:24.4.

As they reached the stretch, second-place finisher Zapaca gave it everything he had but Tokyo Seelster wore him down to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:53.4.  Ongoing Royalty (Steeven Genois) finished third.

Tokyo Seelster is a 4-year-old horse by Kadabra.  He is owned by Michael Sergi and trainer Sam Sergi.  It was his fourth win this season.  He now owns 10 career victories.

John MacDonald drove three winners on the card.  He was first with Rheia Rose ($4.40), Hypnotic Racer ($6.50), and Valottalove ($10.80).  Jeff Byron had a training double.  He got his wins with Prairie Lynx ($3.60), and Hypnotic Racer.

Vernon Downs returns to Live racing on Saturday (Oct. 15) with a 10-race card starting at 6:05 p.m.
